We haven’t been traveling for a while since Tyrtle has been in the motorhome hospital in Chattanooga, and Tom has been in the people hospital a few times for surgeries himself. But we did some local sightseeing here in Atlanta and Chattanooga.
The World of Coca Cola is an imposing structure in downtown Atlanta
It’s next to the Center for Civil and Human Rights …. ironic considering allegations against them of murder and mayhem to stop unions in South America
Entrance
Filled with giant bottle sculptures, there is a bar where everybody gets a metal bottle of Coke before beginning their visit.
History
A short talk about some of the history of Coca Cola using displays of their ad history.
The Tasting Room
Here kids of all ages are encouraged to try out tastes of Coke from around the world. There was also a bar where you could get a taster cup of their bottled water with your choice of taste drops …. one man asked if he could have just some plain water, and he was directed to a vending machine where he could BUY it.
So the plastic cups are “all natural …” but they have no sign proclaiming that the stuff you put in the cup is natural.
Lots of bathrooms (see sign below) so visitors need not fear to drink too much.
The Vault
This is where the secret recipe for Coke is supposedly kept. We didn’t go inside, but there was quite a line of people waiting to see it. Notice how very large it is.
On the way upstairs (for movies etc)
Notice how very big everything is – makes one feel little. And the colors are all very lively and child-like.
Movies
There were several films. The family (below) is taking a picture with the glasses they wore in the “4-D” film. The movie itself was really dumb. The chairs bounced and jerked for no particular reason, and a lot of stuff went flying wildly about in 3D …. and people up front got sprayed with wet stuff … the whole plot was some mad scientist trying to find the secret of Coke and finally his assistant comes up with the solution that there is something in Coke for everyone
On the screen before the movie. Lots of pictures in bubble motif moving up the screen. Message seems to be drink Coke and be happy; drink Coke as appropriate celebration (and maybe cause) of achieving your life dreams.
The Store
Choices …. choices ….
The cookbook, and a sample page for Coca Cola Float Cupcakes
You don’t get out of there without another souvenir bottle of Coke
Outside the building
Lovely area for picnic and play
Plenty of soda machines
and 4 water fountains … gee … NONE of them worked!!
