On the road again ….
Going east on I-82, we saw a column of smoke up ahead. Indeed, as we got closer it seemed bigger and more dramatic.
Where there’s smoke ….
… there’s flames, right? Right. You may have to click on the picture to blow it up enough to see the details but it was quite a dramatic truck fire.
A farmhouse on top of a hill somehow seems nostalgic, as though we long for what we know only from memories of television programs such as Little House on the Prairie.
And then there are hilltop visions that are far less romantic …
And of course the signs A– no Peachtree-related roads around here. The names tell the story of the West:
STAGE GULCH ….
YOAKUM RD …
DEADMAN PASS …
SAND HOLLOW …
REPAIR THIS EXIT (what?)
At about noon on August 14th, we pass the 45th Parallel marker on Highway 84E, putting us exactly halfway between the Equator and the North Pole.
Below are more pictures and a video as we ride along playing some of our favorite songs.
Finally we enter Idaho! We did intend to be there for daughter Rebecca’s birthday … well, we’re about a month late, but we’re almost there! Surprisingly, the official speed limit is now 80 mpg … not that changes our speed as TYRTLE continues to roll along at her usual 55 mpg.
At a bit after 5 pm, we finally arrive at our KOA in Meridian, Idaho. We are now on Mountain Standard Time.
